1. Mika Zibanejad Point -110 on BetOnline
This may be one of the most mis-priced NHL player props I’ve seen all day. It feels like we have a 50% off coupon on the New York Rangers top center, Mika Zibanejad. So let’s breakdown why his point prop is nearly even money and why it much savings not to take.
Zibanejad has a point in 7 of his last 10 games. He just snapped a three game pointless streak as well, which may be factoring into the price discount. He also isn’t “technically” the Rangers top line center anymore, as the Panarin and Trochek line is getting prime minutes. Another reason we may be getting a great price is that Zibanejad had been taken off the top power play unit. However, he is back on that deadly power play and gets a great opponent.
The Ottawa Senators will roll into New York tonight. They were recently struggling to keep pucks out of the net until 22-year old goaltender Merlainen took over. He’s 6-2-1 this season with a 2.2 goals against average, which is very impressive. However, he had his first off night giving up 5 goals to the Bruins in a 6-5 win. This strong performance is also factoring into the discount tonight.
But Zibanejad was originally drafted by the Senators. And he loves playing against them. He has 8 goals and 12 assists against them in 17 career games. He will like to remind them why moving him was a bad idea, making his point and NHL best bet.
2. Brent Burns o2.5 SOG +140 on BetOnline
It has been a long time since I have been able to trust Brent Burns and his SOG (shots on goal) prop. But it seems like the offense first, cannon of a shot defenseman is once again focused on firing away! And due to his slow start to the season we are getting an absolute STEAL on his price. At nearly 1.5x this is a fantastic looking straight bet.
While Burns has only hit his 2.5 SOG prop in 34% of all games this season, he has really turned it up a notch recently. He has now hit in four straight games and is averaging 10 shot attempts per game in those four. He is averaging 5.5 shots on goal in those four games as well. So why such a big discount?
Burns will be playing against the Dallas Stars who are one of the stronger defensive teams in the league. He will also be coming off a back to back game in a Huricanes win in Chicago. While Burns is not great in back to back situations, this recent volume is worth following. It’s hard to ignore those 10 shot attempts per game.
What also makes this an NHL best bet is Burns’ history against Dallas. He has hit in 4 of the last 8 games against them, averaging 7.8 shot attempts. Not bad for someone whose shot volume dropped over recent seasons. This all adds up to a heavily discounted player prop worth taking the risk on.
3. Dylan Strome Point -115 on BetOnline
At certain points this season Dylan Strome’s point prop was around -180. He’s been an incredible playmaker, as the top center for the Washington Capitals and has helped Ovechkin get closer and closer to breaking the goalscoring record. Tonight we are getting him nearly half off. Here’s why this is a discount not to miss.
While Strome only has a single point in his last 6 games, this is a cold streak that started after a 7 points in 6 game stretch. Strome has also been moved up and down the lineup during this cold stretch, but is back with Ovechkin and McMichael on the top line. This is clearly where the discount comes from, but why should you take this NHL best bet?
Tonight the Capitals will face the Edmonton Oilers. An Oilers team who will be without Connor McDavid, while he faces a three game suspension. And while the Oilers still have plenty of talent on their roster, they will be without their top center, meaning Strome can focus more on the offensive side of the game. He also loves playing against the Oilers as he and McDavid are best buds from their days in the OHL. He has a point in 4 of the last 7 games against Edmonton, with 7 points in those games. Give me the coupon on this NHL best bet!
